carry-along cards

This was done in 2007, always wanted to post a pic here, but somehow or rather it was not in the 2007 FOs list. Crocheted using stash cotton yarn only.
I have a total of 10 cards(credit cards, discount cards and ezLink card) slot in between the 2 layers/divders. A very small 4.5" by 3" handy carry-along crocheted card holder.

The last day of 2007

We were at the East Coast Park on the last day of 2007, enjoying the sea, the breeze, the sand and with our beloved, everything little thing counts.

DH and me were cycyling, Jayne was on her kid's scooter. Our route started off at a bicycle rental shop near the Burger King Fast Food Resturant till a fishing jetty way up pass the famous East Coast Food Centre.

Jayne on her kid's scooter with a sling shoulder bag.

Worked in Sirdar Funky Fun Fur with a 3mm crochet needle, this soft yet sturdy bag is a pleasure to make and even more fun to wear. No linning is needed. As per Jayne's request, there is no button at the tip of the flap as she wanted to use one of her many badges as a button, not as a closure but to beautify her bag.
See her babies, the Tamagochi (electronic pet) in the bag. These are the 2nd generation of Tamagochi, given to her by Auntie Agnes. She carrys them wherever she goes, and have been taking care of them for a while now.
She bought them to school in the Primary 3 class project, the Show and Tell session. Guess who is the "xiao ji ji" (little chicks)'s nanny when she is in school.

Peekaboo Mittens

My first pair of handknitted mitten, Peekaboo by Megan at Pensive Frog. The mittens are with a slit whereby the fingers can slip out, for easy movements.

Mittens are not a necessity in this hot and humid weather. My intention is to knit for DD to wear in a man-made cold place, the ice-skating ring. She has been wearing the factory-made mittens and socks there.

As a knitter, i would love to see her wearing my knitted stuffs as a way to motivate me to learn new knitting skills, different projects, last but not least, an excuss to buy more yarns.

Peekaboo mittens are fairly easy to knit, as a beginner, i followed the patterns accordingly, no motification was(dare) needed.

I had a slight held-up at the Thumb gusset part, to use backward loop method to cast on over the gap. With the help from Dustina, she knitted the Playground mittens for her kids, something similar as mine. She showed me this website

I was able to continue knitting. After watching the video, i knew the backward loop method(actually) but i didnt know this cast-on has a name for it.

Everything went along smoothly till the Thumb part (again) where i had to re-join yarn at the gap between hand and thumb gusset, pick up and knit the stitches in base of the cast-on stitches. I knitted, unknitted and knitted before i m happy with the results.

P.S. With DD's help, i managed and know how to add a direct link Here.

A little something for myself

I finished crocheting this for a while but didnt know what to do with the front so just put it aside.
I started to make felt objects lately. This cute monkey face is one of them, actually wanted to make it into a key-chain.
I sew it onto the single-crochet purse (no linning is needed), add a strap and a zip.

A dishcloth

A dishcloth that i crocheted in the library. It is a leaf motif and the pattern is from a Taiwan Book with symbol charts. I always carry a ball of stash yarn in my knitting bag there just in case something cute, easy to do on the spot.

The original look of Ji Dan Kao

Jayne and me were in the kitchen making these Ji Dan Kao (steam egg cakes) for tea yesterday. This time we decided to have it the original look, original taste.
I am very happy to know that there are many who love to eat this childhood treaty like us. It is very simple and easy. This is the recipe.

Ingredients :

1. 100g of Golden Muffins Mix (available in most Supermarkets)

2. 1 egg

3. 2 tablespoons of fresh milk

4. 2 tablespoons of salad oil

Mix together #2-#4, pour in the flour, mix well. Prepare 4 baking paper cups (sizes as desires). I uses 50mm x 39mm pleated white cup. Scoop in the batter, fill it half cup only as it will FA "raise".

At the meantime, get ready a steamer. Put in the cups to steam for 15-20 minutes. You may use a toothpick to check, poke toothpick into the cake, pull it out, no sticky batter on the toothpick means it is ready. Turn off the fire. Let it stands for a while, it will tastes better.

(Please let me know how it turns out)

Now prepare a pot of coffee/chinese tea, sit in your most comfortable position, enjoying the home-made Ji Dan Kao and let the childhood memories lingering in the air.

Egg cakes

These were the "Ji Dan Kao" (Steam Egg Cakes) we made yesterday. The original colour is yellow. Jayne added M&Ms milk choc baking bits to make it colourful like Ice Kachang.
I love to eat Ji Dan Kao very much since young, and now, Jayne loves eating them as much as i do and is keen in cake making. I wont be lonely anymore.

Blue sky, yellow daisy

Blue Sky, Yellow Daisy.

Fairly simple and easy one. Except for the hand-sewn of a 5" zip and the linning. My first time knitting flower petals, arranged and stitched around a button.

A blue little flower print fabric for the linning, matches the yellow daisy well.

Barbie Doll's clothes

I have enjoy making clothes for my dolls since i was a little girl. I loves drawing clothes on paper, putting colours on them, cut it out, and clip it onto my paper dolls.

This is Kelly (left) andTheresa (rigt), one of many Jayne's barbie dolls. I knit the dress using stash yarns. U can either dress it with the Pink on top or turn the other way round, putting the yellow first, depending on the colour of the shoes they are wearing. No pattern, my own version of fashion.

Fat-bottom Backpack

Yarn : Sirdar Chenille DK

Needle : 4mm Clover circular needle, 3mm Clover crochet needle
Size : Base 8' x 6" , 13" H

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
My own one-of-a-kind bag filled with lots of love and warmth. I crocheted the base first using single crochet. With the short and compact stitch, close-by together, making the base durable and sturdy. Picked up and knit around the base, creating a wide-bottomed bag, allowing plently of room for Jayne's stuffs or just about anything. Weave an I-cord drawstring through eyelets for closure which was then sewn onto the 2 corner side of the bottom. The Chenille DK is a stronger yarn which is self-supporting with no linning needed.

Says Hi to Jaywalker

Yarn : LionBrand Yarn * Magic Stripes #202 Sea Blue

Needles : Size 3 (3.25mm) double pointed knitting needles, set of 5

Pattern : here

My Jaywalkers are finished. I enjoy knitting socks lately. After my first pair was done in June. I had been wanting/longing to knit the second one but had been procrastinating. This pattern is easy to remember, and follow. After the one down, the other one is a breeze to me. I have shorten the length, instead of 6 3/4 inches, i did 5 inches.

Sock knitting is a challenge hobby. With so many techniques and ways, it is an never-ending story.
